What is Gnosis?
Gnosis is a Greek word meaning ‘knowledge’; knowledge gained from insight; the direct experience of the spiritual or real. Authentic Gnosis is an eternal, unchanging and universal knowledge that liberates the soul from suffering. This Gnosis has been expressed throughout the course of history by all the world’s great and enlightened souls.
Gnosis is not a religion nor does it belong to any religious denomination. Gnosis does not belong to time or place; to culture, personality, age, gender, or race. It is the golden thread which leads us back in the direction of our divine source, to our own individual holiness. Definition from Wikipedia:Gnosis (from one of the Greek words for knowledge, γνώσις) is the spiritual knowledge of a saint or mystically enlightened human being. In the cultures of the term (Byzantine and Hellenic) gnosis was a special knowledge or insight into the infinite, divine and uncreated in all and above all,[1] rather than knowledge strictly into the finite, natural or material world which is called Epistemological knowledge. [2] Gnosis is a transcendent as well as mature understanding.[3] It indicates direct spiritual experiential knowledge[4] and intuitive knowledge, mystic rather than that from rational or reasoned thinking. Gnosis itself is and was obtained through understanding, arrived at via inner experience or contemplation such as an internal epiphany of intuition and external epiphanies. |
